When Pioneer made the decision to be a serious player in the ICE industry in the 1990’s, they were regarded as a small entity which would not make a big impact in the high end audio market. At that time, Pioneer was just like a typical Japanese head unit manufacture, which products had no special features. Their evolution did not create a revolution; the competitor at that time was too far ahead.
However, when the P and RS were being produced, technologies such as the Super Tuner and DSP had been introduced to their lower end head units, thus seriously challenging its competitors. How a ‘normal’ company could invest billions of Yen yet target their products at for lower end market really makes no profit sense. The processor technology is complicated stuff and is commonly found only in premium class head units, which now at present, we can enjoy this technology, which would cost us only a few hundreds of Ringgit.
