Formula Drift Asia - Malaysia


After Singapore and Thailand, Malaysia was the chosen venue for the last leg of the Formula Drift Asia for the year 2009. The event which was held on the 19th and 20th of December at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) saw the gathering of some of the best drifter from South East Asia, and as far as New Zealand, pushing their rear wheel drive car to its limit. A total of 54 drivers were registered, comprising of renowned drifters such as Mad Mike, Tengku Djan and Kiki, etc.

An estimated turn out of 12,000 fans were seen packed at the MAEPS cars park to witness this epic battles between the 54 participating drifters, which were eventually cut down to the Top-32, which was then whittled down to the Sweet-16, Elite-8, Final-4 and lastly, the Big-2.

The final saw Djan competing with Kiki, the Thailand Drift King. Djan of Team Bridgestone drifted like a man on a mission to prove that he is the better drifter for the day and got the top spot on the podium. Mike Whidde, also known as Mad Mike took third place after he defeated Mervyn Nakamura, another Malaysian drifter. All three drivers were rewarded with an all-carbon fiber Formula Drift trophy. The judges for the day were Ryan Sage, Andy Yen and Daijiro ‘Dai’ Yoshihara.
