Good finishing is an important factor; exterior appearance is the least critical, but look inside the openings and the surface finish of the internal walls and joints. It's like selecting a durian — it may look ugly on the outside, but the inside is what really matters.

Check if the holes that connect to the cylinder head exhaust ports are clean and free from jagged protrusions, and the joint is flush and not overlapping. Normally, a good product has a reasonably smooth joint and any excess weld metal is ground off to level with the flange and pipe internal surfaces.
