Now that we’re back let us continue with our discussion on ‘brakes’. This time we’ll look at the different types of brake pads compound…

Brake Pad Compounds

Most pads used to use asbestos. Since we all know how bad asbestos can be to our health and environment, now they use all manner of combinations of materials. The pads themselves are made up of a friction material bonded to the backing plate. The brake caliper piston pushes against the backing plate and the friction material is pushed against the brake rotor. The material combinations typically fall into the following broad categories now.
